Most of us grew up with dogs, cats or birds, didn’t we? I wonder any of you grew up with lions, tigers or Crocodiles?! Adriana Castro is the one who has such a unique experience! Castro is a beautiful sweetheart who was born in Colombia. Having spent most of her childhood with her father on his crocodile’s farm, Adriana was fascinated about being designing handbags and accessories with the exotic skins of these creatures. She knows crocodiles and she has the knowledge to “utilize and combine as much of the creature’s skin and textures as possible,” Adriana said.
After getting her Bachelor Degree from Purdue University, Castro continued her studies in Accessory Design at Miami International University and started her designer adventure. Castro’s designs were recognized by the public soon after her first collection, Amazonia, was launched. Her collection has been featured in WWD, Vive, Ocean Drive, Daily Candy, Vogue Latin America and many more. Last year, Castro won the Fresh Faces in Fashion award for Accessory Design from GenArt.
Adriana aims to make elegant crocodile bags and accessories that everyone can carry. She pays a lot of attention to quality control and always travels to Colombia, where the bags are made, to make sure every bag is in excellent condition. For the Fall collection, she will name each of her bag by a star of the constellation and will emphasize the use of metallic and night-sky deep blue. The other thing I am happy to tell you is about the Louis Vuitton FireBird. One of our Handbaggers friends, Janka, wrote a very good article about the FireBird bags. Janka not only talks about the FireBird and Cartoon FireBird, but also gives the readers a little background of these bags and her comments on them! One more thing…there are a lot of wonderful pictures from Janka’s blog. So don’t forget to visit her blog and see them. Especially if you are a Louis Vuitton Addict! 🙂 Check it out!
“Attention to detail” is what Kara Ross describes the key of “high quality”. After starting her company with Fine Jewelry about five years ago, Kara Ross expands her works of art to handbags, from clutches to shoulder bags, combining her passion for semi-precious stones with exotic skin. Kara expects women wearing her collections will have “an independent and unique sense of style, classic yet willing to take risks and stand out”. Kara aims to make unique jewelry and handbags with special textile and fabric in order to show a modern elegance with a vintage feeling in her designs.
Kara discovered her talent when her parents asked her to design a ring with a tourmaline stone taken during a trip to Africa. She dreamed of being a designer ever since. Nowadays, Kara’s collections are highly recognized and being featured in popular magazines such as Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar and Elle as well as chosen by celebrities.
Share with you a couple of bags from the S/S 2008 collection that I like. The combination of exotics skin and fine craft work make her bags extraordinary and eye-catching. The company will start using other fabrics for Resort and S/S collection in 2009. Remember to keep an eye on that! 🙂
